Biodiversity in cosmetics
Biodiversity on our planet is declining. This not only affects the biodiversity of plants, animals and other life forms, but also the diversity of habitats. It has a dramatic impact on us all, as humans are dependent on an intact natural environment in many ways. Protecting biodiversity and treating nature and people with respect are therefore essential for companies.
Many cosmetics companies have recognised this and are already taking countless measures to counteract the loss of biodiversity along the entire supply chain.

Biodiversity is becoming increasingly important for companies.

"It is becoming increasingly important for cosmetics manufacturers to integrate biodiversity into their business processes. As part of our cooperation with the IKW, we can support association members in integrating biodiversity even better into their corporate strategy."

Labelling of fragrances
A new European Commission regulation on the labelling of fragrances in cosmetic products (Regulation (EU) 2023/1545) has been in force since 16 August 2023. The labelling of certain perfume ingredients in cosmetics is mandatory for manufacturers if their concentration in a product is above specified thresholds. Previously, 24 perfume ingredients had to be included in the list of ingredients. The new regulation extends this list to over 80 substances.
There is more information under Labelling of fragrances, e.g.
- COSMILE-EuropeCOSMILE Europe app provides quick and easy information about all the ingredients in a cosmetic product (information available in englisch and other languages).

"Labelling certain fragrances on cosmetic products ensures greater transparency for consumers and allows allergy sufferers to see at a glance whether a product is suitable for them or not. This is even quicker with the COSMILE Europe app."
