Cosmetics GMP – Activities and documents

The Competence Partner Beauty Care within IKW informs about the most recent developments on Cosmetics GMP. Furthermore, it offers continuing education events on this topic. The German brochure “Kosmetik-GMP – Die Norm DIN EN ISO 22716, kommentiert vom Industrieverband Körperpflege- und Waschmittel” can be ordered from Verlag für chemische Industrie at a price of EUR 89 + VAT + shipment costs.

The ad-hoc Working Group Cosmetics GMP of IKW has, furthermore, revised the existing checklist on self-assessment and adjusted it to the DIN EN ISO 22716 standard. The brochure “Cosmetics GMP – Check list for self-assessment, 2nd edition July 2009” can be called up here.

Concerning the use of the Checklist for self-assessment, the following points should be taken into account:

- The data and information in the foreword to the checklist must by all means be observed. It can simplify necessary own controls by the manufacturers of cosmetic products concerning the completeness and effectiveness of Cosmetics GMP rules defined by the company in its plants.

- The Checklist is to provide an orientation but should not represent a tick-off list. It must possibly be adjusted to the circumstances in the company and the processed products. It is also intended as an honest self-assessment and not for disclosure to third parties. Concerning evidence for the fulfilment of the requirements in terms of good manufacturing practices (Cosmetics GMP) for third parties it is, for instance, possible to use the document as attached in the Appendix to the Checklist.

- This pdf file can be completed, saved and printed.

Concerning offers and possible requests on the market in respect of “certificates” in accordance with cosmetics GMP which have come to our knowledge, we would like to point out the following:

1. There is so far no German or European “Cosmetics GMP Directive”. The standard DIN EN ISO 22716 is, in legal terms, likewise merely a guideline.

2. In accordance with the statutory provisions it is not necessary to submit a certificate issued by a third party.

3. At a review/auditing by third parties it should be ensured that the auditor has sufficient knowledge and experience in the field of cosmetics legislation, cosmetics manufacturing and the requirements of Cosmetics GMP.
