Advanced training courses for Safety Assessors – now also online

Regardless of when or where you would like to educate yourself: from now on, the course offer for safety assessors of the German Society for Scientific and Applied Cosmetics (DGK) and the German Cosmetic, Toiletry, Perfumery and Detergent Association (IKW) can also be booked as a web trainings.

For more than 20 years cosmetics manufacturers have had to subject each product prior to its launch in the EU to a comprehensive health safety assessment. This is prescribed by European cosmetics legislation. For the same period, the concept of advanced training courses for safety assessors has been available – a course offer, which has proven its worth through competent speakers, an orientation towards practice and clarity. Although the safety assessment for cosmetic products may only be carried out by persons who have selected qualifications such as a university degree in chemistry, pharmacy or medicine, such a training is as a rule not sufficient for a professional safety assessment. Additional interdisciplinary knowledge imparted in advanced training courses is, therefore, indispensable and is not only used by future safety assessors but is also highly appreciated by representatives of the competent authorities.

At the end of the day, it was only a logical step for DGK and IKW to offer the course modules also in a digital form – the demand inside and outside Europe had continuously increased over the past years and the courses were often fully booked already at an early stage. The additional online offer is, therefore, to provide relief and meet the needs of course participants who live and work farther away: the web trainings allow for more flexibility in terms of timing and cause less costs, since travel and accommodation expenses do not arise. Birgit Huber, Head of the Competence Partner Beauty Care: “The EC Cosmetics Regulation is considered as one of the strictest cosmetics legislations in the world. The safety assessors are very important because their expert knowledge ensures that a cosmetic product meets all the statutory requirements. We are pleased to note that other countries, too, have an interest in these high safety standards and we are ready to share our current knowledge online.”

Meanwhile, all seven course modules are available as web trainings in English. After each course an examination can be taken. Following the successful participation in all individual courses, the overall participation is confirmed at the end. Persons who, moreover, meet the statutory requirements concerning their training and have attended three practical seminars in three years can apply for the “DGK Safety Assessor” certificate.
