German Cosmetic, Toiletry, Perfumery and Detergent Association (IKW)
IKW, the German Cosmetic, Toiletry, Perfumery and Detergent Association (Industrieverband Koerperpflege- und Waschmittel e. V.), is the industry and trade association of manufacturers and distributors of cosmetic, toiletry, perfumery, detergents and household cleaning products. In 2008 this industry represents in Germany a sales volume of Euro 16.5 billion at retail sales prices. Germany is in 3rd position at world market level behind the USA and Japan. In Europe Germany is the biggest national market followed by France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and Russia.
The 393 member of IKW account for over 95 percent of the industry. All well-known big global players of the industry operating in Germany are members of IKW. The majority of the members are small and medium-size manufacturers and distributors.
Located in Frankfurt/Main, the main business hub of Germany, IKW voices opinion on national and global economic, legal, technical and scientific issues which are of mutual concern to its members.
Like "Eau de Cologne" invented about 210 years ago in the famous German town Cologne (Koeln), well-known herbal extracts recipes or highly appreciated beauty and body care category brands were created in Germany.
Brands of the German cosmetic, toiletry, perfumery, detergent, household cleaning and maintenance products industry are among the most valuable brands and with long tradition and world-wide excellent reputation for its innovation, product safety and environment consciousness concepts. Consequently, exports of the German IKW members to foreign countries around the globe are increasing significantly every year.
Not surprising for a German industry association, IKW is committed to particularly demanding standards of product quality and safety. Within this mission its own teams of experts from various task forces examine fundamental health issues and perform thorough environmental assessments of products and their ingredients. IKW offers financial support to research and development efforts which contribute toward increasing and expanding the basic knowledge of scientific correlation and principles.
IKW is supporting the participation of its members in important international exhibitions (German Pavilions).
IKW is founding member of the European Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association
(Colipa) and the International Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance
Products (A.I.S.E.), both based in Brussels, Belgium.
